My dealer spoke with the Ford Rep and he said that the DVD option won't be available untill Jan/05. I've posted a question about this before, but with this news i'm getting i don't know what to believe.
Anyone want to fill me in? I'm in Canada so that could be the reason, but I'd really like this cleared up before I order the truck.
You can still add them on the Ford.com site in the build your truck option, also I have ordered a Lariet with build date scheduled next week and it has one.
The are very few to none on dealers lots with the DVD, sounds like he wants to sell off the lot rather than order you one cause he is full of BS.
Yeah, mine is supposed to be built next week withthe DVD player also. In fact, the DVD was the cause of my truck build being delayed several weeks. They are making them now. Don't know if Canada has different issues, though.
Every week we get a list from Ford of what options/colors/models are on short supply. Nowhere on my list does it show any shortage of the DVD player. Then, I just built one in the Ford ordering system; sometimes that will tell us certain options are not available for order. Again, nothing came up as being a problem- it will allow me to order one with the DVD. If it wasn't available till '05, believe me, the Ford system would have alerted me and prevented the order from going any further.
I found a new 04 f150 Lariat in dallas on the lot with a dvd player in it. Dealer told me that the truck was just delivered. This may be a sign that they are stsrting to build them now. The truck is wedgewood blue w/ tan interior. Bad news is that the dealer ordered this truck in september of 2003. I am tired of waiting for mine. I cancelled the order of my truck today. Bet i'll have trouble gettin my deposit back. Found something on a lot in Jackson, Ms. I am being told that the dvd can be added to the rail system anytime. He told that the wiring was already in place. ???????
Wiring is not in place. There is no harness available aftermarket, either. So if you wanted to get the Ford DVD with the rail system, you would have to go in and wire the harness through the headliner. Or buy a different aftermarket DVD player that runs independent, or get a new head unit that can support DVD.
No Ford add in until 05, the harness is not in place from other posts about this same subject. From the factory or aftermarket is your options. Search, I saw some very nice installs of a DVD player on this forum. Much better than factory but costs were high too on most.
From what I am seeing, looks like the 05's will have the harness built in. Don't know if the 04's can have the harness added ?
The DVD's are in production. you can order one for an 04.
We (supplier of DVD, Rail system, Overhead system, visors, and seats) are working on releasing a wire harness to purchase through accessories to add to 04 trucks that did not come with DVD.
in 05, there will be an option to order a "pre wire kit" that will set a truck up with the correct harness, if a customer wants a dvd added to a truck that does not have a dvd, but has this harness. or you can simply order one factory installed for 05 too. this seems like a very smart option for any dealer inventory truck.
the factory dvd is integrated with the radio head unit. in fact, it is the only device using the aux line level input on the radio. it has many features shared between the radio and dvd controls that an aftermarket system would not, including an aux input jack set (left/right/video) that lets you add other devices (sat radio?) to the aux input of the radio
The order for my '04 F-150 Lariat Screw was accepted by Ford Dec. 5th, 2003 and I was told to expect a 6 to 8 week wait. Last Friday was the 14th week anniversary and the New Car Sales Manager (said that he) researched it's status and found that 0 (ZERO) percent of the F-150's were being shipped with the DVD option. He also stated that he was instructed to NOT take any orders for this option.
As it implies, he had no other information on my order! No ETA, no VIN number, no build date, NOTHING!
If it is correct that I can order an '05 as early as the end of May, might I only be waiting a couple more months for a year newer truck?
I will follow up to see if anything is different than my disussion last week with our plant, just to confirm.
but if you might be able to order in may, I don't know..........but typical model change over is in July in the vehicle plants and only in august do you typically see the first trucks on lots from a model change over, unless ford is doing something unique to get changes out and call it 05, that i do not know. just my experience in the auto industry to support this info on a "typical" model change over.
if he says he can't order it with dvd. ( which with my info, I disagree) then your option would be to get the DVD later with the harness we are workign on. just a suggestion.
realize that things have changed significantly in the last two weeks regarding the dvd availability.
I Have a 04 FX4 and Installed a 10.4 inch DVD Plaver from movies 2go the screen on the stock dvd is not the best. the unit fits perfect in the armrest and is the smallest dvd player available
Just got off the phone with our plant quality manager on the floor and he said things are just as I stated here earlier in the week .
production is ramping up and will be at full capacity by March 29.
And I also confirmed with our 05 launch team that it is a conventional launch schedule. (ie. trucks begin to be produced in July and show up on lots in August at the earliest for 05 models. ) you still may be able to order one in may.... I don't know......
