I just had three types of run with our new 03 7.3 F350 4x completely stock.
First on the highway unloaded & at 65 mph got 25.2 mpg Second in town unloaded only get 12.5 mph Third towing 7200# @ 65mph only got very low 7mpg.
All mpg was figured by dividing gallons into miles traveled on tripometer
Now it did tow alot better than my 350 Chev did. I had lot easier time getting where I was going but the tow miliage was only 1mpg more than the chevy. Dealer can find nothing wrong. Any sugestions? I am thinking about a Superchip as soon as I can figure out my basic miliages.
1. Fillup at same station (to minimize variables)
2. Fill up to the top of the neck (remember, these fuel tanks can stop up to 6 gallons short of full).
3. Did you use any diesel kleen or other type of cetane boost prior to the best or any run? If so, try either no fuel additive or one every fill up for your next runs.
Seems like an awful variation in mileage, to go from 25 to 12mpg. May sound dumb but are you sure that the milage counter is counting all the time? Just a thought.
IB422GOON, the only way you will get a good acurate milage check is when filling up your tank go slow even trickle in the fuel until you can see fuel in filler neck. these tanks will fool you they seem full but they really wont be full. I know its a pain but thats the only you can get a good read on your milage. try it this way a couple times, then you will see steady readings. once your sure about your milage being steady, then try some DFA additives and see if they help. hope this helps. 01psd
ib422goon...I might add that it takes forever but if you dribble the fuel in, you can get 4 more gallons in the tank. At least my 02 is that way. The next person in line can get kinda ticked as you spend another 6 to 8 minutes doing this. Oh well, he who is first, wins!
