Fuel miliage
I have had a 2003 7.3 F350 4x for 1 month now. I have never had a diesel b4. When we first got the truck for the first 2 tanks of fuel we got 18.3 & 17.9 in town. we also put 2 tanks in for hiway use and got 15.2 & 14.9 @ 65 on cruise and flat land. Now for the past 2 tanks with a city/hiway mix we are only getting 11.5 & 12.3. All of this is unloaded. When we hooked up the trailer (6200#) and pulled the grade by our house I could only manage to go 60mph ( @2200 rpm 3rd gear) up the grade, which our old 98 Chevy 1500 with a 350 would pull @ 50 to 55mph ( 4000 rpm 2nd gear).
The Ford only has 19,000 miles on it and I expected alot more from It. Am I expecting to much? Could somthing B wrong? Runs fine I guess. Am I maybe doing something wrong, Or does it need to break in more like I have heard. Any help would b helpfull.

well i find it odd that you have a 2003 7.3. I bet it is a 6.0. They are very trouble some. Did you purchase it from a dealer? Look in the 6.0 forum, there is a thread in there about 6.0 milage and someone is doing heavy research and making some sort of sheet deal on the 6.0's and build dates. The truck is not totally broke in yet, it takes diesels a little longer, but the fuel milage thing makes me wonder. Are you going by the overhead monitor or are you doing it by hand? If the computer never got upgraded, there were some glitches in the PCM ( computer ) module. There was a release of a new PCM module update in Jan. some time that "fixed" all of the 6.0 PCM problems. It is covered under warrenty, so i would take it into a ford shop and have them update the computer, and have them check it out, thats what warrenty is for.

2003 7.3
Production date is 8/02 and title has it as a 03. Under hood lable says 7.3. I am figureing miliage by hand as I have always done. was getting 18 when we first got it 4wks ago and now only getting 11.5-12.2 Have not made any changes but tires. Went to a 285 but was getting the 18 mpg with these tires.

Oh by the way My truck is the same right down to the odometer
and i get somwhere around your first few readings all the time something may be wrong someone else will know more and hopefully help
