got a 66 352 am thinkin of puttin a crane 901 for more power. is it good for idle to 4500 RPMs? also how many horeses will i gain? will i need to get diffrent length pushrods?
They don't show the expected performance like they used to. On a mostly stock 352, I would expect maybe 25 HP. That should improve with other mods, like intake, carb and exhaust.
I believe that it is the opinion of most of the guys here that the 901 is fine with stock valve train and the 941 is on the edge.
With stock everything, 2 barrel carb and stock exhaust logs, DD2K shows you making 221hp@4000rpm as it is, and 258hp@4500 with the 901 cam. With the 941 cam you'd make 260hp@5000.
Just for your information, with headers, 4-barrel intake, 600cfm carb and the 901 cam you'd be making 321hp@5000. With the same setup and the 941 you'd be making 336hp@5000.
I'd suggest you go with adjustable rocker arms and matching pushrods. Stock ones will not work. If you keep the stock setup you might be ok, but without adjustment abilities it will be difficult to set lifter preload.
I was pretty close for pulling it off the top of my head :-)
Rusty's trying to make a liar out of me. But, to defend him ,Crane would probably reccomend adjustables and new springs as well.
I know several guys here have run the 901 and 941 on stock valve train. I ran a Crower Power Beast on stock non-adjustable valve train (.546" lift, somewhere between the 901 and 941).
I just thought, if you port your heads you can get even more hp. With pocket porting, if you get it up to Edelbrock FE numbers (that's what I'm basing this off of), you'll get 384hp @ 5500rpm. Porting is where the performance is.
