I'm trying to cure a higher rpm surging/stuttering problem on my 88 F150 as well as a periodic flashing check engine light. I tried an MSPI Pro-link code reader on my truck today, it would function properly either, it would come on but it wouldn't do any of the functions. I noticed that the EECIV and fuel pump relays must have been changed at one time before I got the truck as the wiring colors are different on the new relays, I wonder if this might be part of the problem? They are just hooked in to the factory harness with butt connectors.
My Equis code reader makes the high pressure fuel pump come on when you put it on the "test" mode but the pro-link didn't do this. I consider myself to be very competent with electrical work so I guess I'll have to dig into the wiring and find out what's been butchered. Anyone got any other idea's on what to look for?. I want the diagnostics to work properly on my truck as I plan to have it for a few years. EFI is great until you start having problems, then its just a big PITA!!!
