Hello to all. Awesome site, it has been very helpfull!
I bought my 72' F100 about a month ago. It has a 360 with a C6 tranny. I have been having a blast tinkering with it. I have recently put the pertronix ignition system in and love it! On to my question. When I changed the plugs I couldn't get the number 5 plug out. The socket won't go completely on the plug because it hits on the motor before it gets all the way around the plug. I am wondering if the wrong plug was installed? And how I am going to get the plug out?! Just hoping you guys had some ideas on this one? Thanks again for all the help!!
could be that the corners are rounded off to. if so, use a junk metric socket 12 point and drive it on to the plug base. remeber you will destroy the socket, so get a cheap one to sacrfice. just a thought but is the socket hiting the top of the plug? I have seen some strange plugs out there and you might have one with an extra long insulator. hope you get it out. as far as what rapid russ said. I have not seen a 5/8 plug in a FE before either. but people do some strange things. can't wait to hear how this one turns out.
Ok rapidruss. I could not stand it any more. I checked the Chiltons book I have, and it shows 1965 to 1976 BF32 and BF42. all the same 13/16 pulg size. still someone could have stuffed the wrong one in there.
Fordaholic!!! I have seen some wierd SH** back when I had my shop!! I had a guy come in 1 day with a miss in a 6 banger Pontiac..We could figuer it out and pulled the head.. someone had pulled the rod and piston out of one of the holes and welded a plate in that cylinder<--its to early to type?? LOL!!
on the subject of the plugs... i know ford wnet to a 9/16" spark plug for 2004... not sure if it was on the v8 or the v10 or both ... the socket for these is probably in the $50 range.... your best best is youse a normal 9/16" deep socket to unthread it then use a magnet to pul it out.... at least if you cant aford or find the new socket.... even the dealerships dont have the socket yet
Is it dirt or a small pebble? I've had gravel around my plugs in the past - I drive a few miles of gravel roads every day. Get a good light and try to see what your socket is hitting.
I had a wierd incident with my plugs. I bought Bosch Platinum plugs for my truck and my truck won't start with them. I checked to make sure they are right and I gapped them right and they won't work. The funny part is that the old ones will still work.
Try chaning plugs in the edel heads. It is a 5/8" plug and you will need to go hunting for a cheap socket to get the walls thin enough. I hate it. I see no reason they couldn't have made the recess a little wider.
The platinum plgs don't work well in older non-efi engines and I can't give you a reason why. Plain old autolites seem to be the hot ticket. I used to think autolite plugs were like Fram filters but after hearing so much good stuff I tried them out. Its autolite for me from now on.
since i have a 352, and i know there's a lot of guys in here with 352s, i would like to know what kind of spark plugs they run and what their part number is so i can check them out.
