alarm?

how good is the factory alarm on these trucks, mines 97 f250 LD xlt,it shows theft on the dash and i have fob, my key looks like a stock ford key like my 95 was.

Does it have a large key? Does the theft light come on for three seconds and then go out? If it does it has a pats system. Ford doesent have an alarm system anymore that I am aware of that blows the horn when someone trys to break in or something. The Pats system just keeps the vehicle from being started with a key that is not programed for the vehicle. You can cut a regular key that will turn the ignition switch but the vehicle wont start and run. Some systems disable the starter, and others disable the fuel injectors. Roll window down, lock and close door, wait a minute, reach in through window and open door with inner door handle. If the horn starts bomping, you have an alarm system. The panic button on the key fob is for personal protection only. If someone is trying to bop you in the head while you are getting in or near your vehicle.
