I plan on getting a flat bed goose neck trailer soon.( getting tired of my bumper pull) Anyway, what are the differences between a deck over and one with the deck between the wheels. I know the deck height is different and the deck will be larger on a deck over. But what other differences are there?? Any and all advice is welcome. Or experiences etc. thanks
As you noted, on a deck over trailer the deck is higher off the ground. They also offer a wider deck (can go up to 102" wide for the deck as opposed to 102" minus the width of both fenders). Deck overs are usually heavier built as well.
With the deck over you are far less limited in what you can drive on (my tractor will not fit on most non-deck over trailers).
It depends mostly on what you plan to do with it. The deck overs are usually a higher price due to heavier construction.
As stated, it all depends upon what you are planning to use it for. The deck overs are heavier, as you can fit duals under them, but sit higher and end up with more wind drag and a bit higher center of gravity. If you aren't ever going to need the heavy weight capacity, you might consider the lower units, but if it is likely you need the extra weight ability, you will need to just get the unit you need the first time.
Thanks for all the input. The trailer will be used mostly for moving two 4wd vehicles around and both will have good ground clearance so I wont have to worry about problems getting on and off a triler. The other thing it will be used for is ???, you know how it goes. Everyone needs you to help them move something because you have a trailer. Most likely i will go with the deck over about 30 ft + 5 ft for the beaver tail, and 14,000 gvw. My truck is only a f 350 so anything bigger wont be of much use but there is always a what if. i want a f 550 but cant seem to find that $50,000 i set down a few months back. anyone know where i put it???
