The 04 F350 I ordered arrived yesterday. When standing behind the truck I noticed that the space between the sliding back window down to the top of the back of the bed is not even. The space slops to the right side by about a inch. The truck was sitting on flat even concrete and the front wheels were straight ahead. The other 350's on the lot did not do this. They are going to put the truck in the body shop to see if they can correct. For the most part I have refused the truck. Has anybodyelse seen this before?
I'd refuse it and get another one just to be safe... If the frame were tweaked somehow, a spacer under the bed to even it out would be an easy "fix" and hard for someone to notice unless they were looking for it. I don't think I'd want to drop that kind of cash only to find out later it fell of the transport train or something and was fixed... Doubtful? Sure. Possible? Probably happens all the time.
Hey it happens. My grand father had a car about six years ago. He bought it new of the floor with one mile on it.. Well about a year and a half after buying the car he had an accident. The accident
uncovered bondo all over the car. This was not right. So he did some investigating and found out the car had fell of the back of the transport truck and been repaired and sold as new.. I know this is probably not something that happens every day but I know for a fact that it does happen.
I wouldn't accept that truck unless they could show me the fix was NOT something like adding a spacer on one side or shimming the bed or cab. And even then I'd wanta look that sucker over real good before I signed off on it.
Have it chkd out by there shop and see what the answer is .
This happens sometimes ,the bed mount bushing is the wrong size or the rubber spacer is left out.
My truck came in almost identical to what your saying and the wrong size bed mouning bushing was installed at the factory .They installed the correct one and truck is fine.
But I've seen damage from rail car shipping or over the road shipping happen .I worked in the bodyshop bussiness for yrs fixed alot of this stuff.
just don't except a shim here and a shim there .
Because down the road ,you could be wearing tires wrong or the truck dog tracks (goes down the road sorta sideways)
Thanks guys for the input, I have not heard anything from the body shop yet. I did stop at another Ford dealer yesterday and looked at a few other trucks. The were 3 F250's there that had the same problem. I don't know what's going on but maybe it's a missing spacer thing.
I certainly wouldn't ACCEPT it until you are ABSOLUTELY certain TO YOUR SATISFACTION, that the truck is as perfect as it can be for a new car.
If they say it's the bushing/spacer thing, GO LOOK AT IT. Be a pain. You have that right for $30k + . YOU are the one that needs to be satisfied, NOT ford or the body shop.
Maybe you want to scare up an independent body guy to go with you to get an unbiased assessment. I've got a few friends that would do that for a 12 pack.
Here is a quick update regarding the truck I ordered. The service manger looked at the truck and agreeded that there was a problem. He said that if you can see it with the naked eye than it clearly is out of tolerance. We spent about 1/2 hour measuring the truck and could not determine what was causing the issue. We looked at a new SC and CC trucks that just arrived off the carrier and they had the same issue. I told them I saw three others at another dealership the other day with the same issue. The service manager is going call the Ford district engineer to investigate this issue further.
Yes a a frame can get tweaked ,if you could see how these trucks are tied down on a rail car ,you would agree . have you ever been in a rail yard an seen how they couple trains together ?
Its a pretty good smack. Also over the road transport can do some things also !I've seen it and worked on it yrs passed ,since retired from it
Mikesz06 ,
Did they put it on a laser frame alignment machine? If the dealer isn't big enough to have this type of equiptment ,they have no clue then.
Order another one.
Don't let them get the ford rep to tell you its okay ! because he'll say its within their tolerance and acceptable.
Rich, I am gong to refuse this truck and I have told them this. There is no way I would buy this thing. They now want to know what's causing the issue because other trucks on the lot have the same problem. As I said earlier I have seen this issue on trucks at other dealerships as well. I think most buyers just do not notice it or care. For myself it's a deal breaker.
Good choice - even if they managed to fix it, there'd always be that slight doubt that the problem was not fixed. Hate to find out when you really needed the truck to respond as it should. Let us know if they ever figure out what has caused all of the apparent defects in your area.
