I forgot to mention that these gears come in different lengths. Some may work, some may not. It's tough when you have a altered vehicle. The cable has to slide up into the housing easily and can't be forced in. After you put it in with a gear on it, try to spin the inner cable on the opposite end. If it turns freely, the gears not meshed properly= too short of a gear. You don't want it to turn. it's all trial and error in your case. You're dealing with unknown parts from who knows what year car or truck.

yep, all I know is that the engine was pulled from a 72 mercury Comet and I don't think the transmission came from that, but I could be wrong.

Its hard to believe that 1 tooth can be the difference of 10 miles per hour
