Crude oil is graded on the potential it has for refining purposes. Sweet Crude is desirable due to its low or non-existent sulfur content, offering superior yields of desirable oil byproducts. Some trivia, a 42-gallon barrel of crude oil yields about 19 gallons of refined gasoline and a total, including the gasoline, of 44 gallons of usable products. While gasoline gets the most attention, plastics are also an oil byproduct. If you do any investing or have an interest in current events, a basic understanding of the oil industry and those industries that depend on it is almost a necessity as it affects such a broad spectrum of business and politics.
