I have a '95 F150 with the 5.0 and it seems that my AC compressor has seized up. I don't really want to pay to fix everything right now, so I'd like to just remove the compressor and replace it with an AC bypass pulley.
Does anyone know if there is a way to remove the compressor without releasing all the refrigerant? I've found some references on the web to doing that when taking the whole motor out, but I'd like to do it with the motor still in the truck. Any help would be great appreciated!
Here's a picture showing the AC clutch coil. The red arrow points to the connector you need to unplug. There maybe a locking tab on the connector that you may need to pry/lift up before the connector can be disconnected.
while we are on the topic, Just more recently my truck starts to squeek, not super loud but annoying "cricket or bird chirping" sounds. I've replaced the belt and some one told me its my AC compressor. I dont use it cause it doesnt work so it may lead to that. So how can I get rid of that sound
Use a mechanics stethoscope and see if you determine where the squeaking noise is coming from.
You can also remove the serpentine belt and manually turn each pulley.
As far as the noise coming from the AC clutch pulley if the AC is off, that could indicate the AC clutch pulley bearing is bad. That pulley can be removed and a new bearing pressed in.
The serpentine belt system on my 88 with a 300 six always squeaks. I'll install a new belt and a couple weeks latter the squeak returns. It also seems to squeak when it's humid out. It's done this since I purchased the truck new in 88.
In this pic. the arrow points to the AC clutch pulley. The bearing spins on the shaft of the AC compressor.
