AC Compressor siezed.
My AC Compressor is seized. I finally figured out the previous owner had cheated the Switch and the AC pump was engaged all the time. 170K miles now.
So it finally seized. Its stuck solid. I can just reach the pulley with my finger tips and there is no play at all in that pulley.
I haven't taken it off yet. Too difficult to do in this cold weather.
Hazard a guess for me.
Will I need to replace this pump, or can I just replace the bearings myself?
What seizes? The pump impellers, vanes or pistons? Bearings?
Can I get this one apart?
BTW, the compressor can't be repaired DIY.
A known good used condenser will work fine, along with a new accumulator and a quality new or reman compressor. You will need to solvent flush the rest of the system. If the compressor discharge line has a muffler (inline "can") it will also need to be replaced, a good used line will work.
Remove the belt and see if you can turn the pulley. If so, try and turn the clutch face.
If the pulley is frozen but the clutch turns freely, you can replace the clutch/pulley assembly.
If the clutch won't turn, the compressor is seized internally.
A very comprehensive reply.
When it warms up a bit....
I'm in School now and way behind them dang kids.
That pickup will just sit in the barn till the weather warms up.
PS: I used to go to Tech School in Miamisburg and when I learned to fly I'd land at Morain and South Dayton.
