I am looking for some help/adivce on purchasing an aftermarket intake manifold for my factory 4-barrel heads on the cleveland. I am checking the local used-parts magazine and found two different intakes. One is a Edelbrock Torker 351 (#2760) and an Offenhauser 360 degree (#5964) that are going for around $400. First question are the prices expensive and how much do they normally go for?? I found some specs on the Edelbrock, but nothing on the Offenhauser. And second is there any major differences between the two (does one out perform over the other). Anyone that could answer these two questions would be very helpful. Thanks in advance for a response.
First either of these manifolds cost around 225 new.
There is a big difference between these manifolds. The offy is a dual plane which helps build bottom end and comes to life from off idle and probably washes out around 4500. Where as the torker is a single plane that comes to life around 3000 and washes out around 7000. Which is better? It depends on what your doing with it.
basically Most people with mustangs seem to like the torqer, and most people with 4x4s like Offy but $400 better be for both not each, I only spent $450 for a new parker funnel web intake and that included shipping from Aussie to the state via airmail so even if you are canada, and are talking the canadian dollar that is too high for a used intake
The best all around 4V port intake available is the Blue Thunder dual plane, bar none. In numerous back to back tests, the Blue Thunder provided the best combination of HP and torque. I have had customers that have replaced stock factory iron intakes, as well as other aftermarket aluminum 4V port intakes, and they have always found better driveablity and power. For an all out, high rpm engine, the old Holley Strip Dominator or a Funnel Web will make slightly more top end power, but they cannot make the mid range torque. I'd use a Funnel Web on a high rpm race engine, or a stroked rpm race engine. Other than that, I'd recommend the regular Blue Thunder 4V intake. I have never had a customer not be impressed with a BT after we've set them up with one. You can expect to pay $340 for one. You can check Blue Thunder's web site, but they don't offer much specific info-www.bluethunderauto.com
A couple of decent seconds would be a factory Boss 351C intake, and there was a good dual plane from down under.

The Strip Dominator makes less than 10hp over the Blue Thinder but averages 20tq less in the mid range rpm where a street engine lives.
The BT also made 40hp more than the Boss 351 intake.
This engine was stroked slightly to 377/351C. Imagine how much more power it could make with a 427/400 stroker.
"You can expect to pay $340 for one."
You can expect to pay just as much for a used, rare Boss 351 intake.
The Boss intake is the same as the stock 351C 4V intake, except it's made from aluminum.
