starting without manifolds.

Is it safe to run an engine without exaust manifolds for about 2 seconds? I need to show some dumb city $#@ that my engine can start but I have had a lot of trouble finding exaust manifolds for it...

Its a complicated city law.... If I cant, then Ill have to tow it to a certain place were I can fix it later.

Will 2 seconds of running it without manifolds ruin the valves? Will it shoot flames out and possible cause a fire?

Never done it before, scared to try....

Two to five seconds shouldn't hurt anything. To be extra safe have someone standby with a fire extinguisher and have the hood open.

Aren't neighborhood restrictions beautiful? I just got a letter saying that they're making two drive-bys a month now instead of just one.

They can drive by but how do they know if your truck runs or not?

And how do they get the right to make you start it if its on your own property? Wouldnt that be considered an illegal search?

If I say it runs, do they have the right to make me prove it or fine me?

Depending on your homeowners' agreement, they very well may. Those agreements give an incredible amount of legal power to the self-appointed neighborhood *****. They can take possession of your house if you break the rules in some cases. I've gotten warnings because they didn't like my Christmas lights before.

Well luckily I just found a set of exaust manifolds so I can run it now for more than 2 seconds.

They say as long as I can start it, Im ok.

75 dollars a peice for exaust manifolds, does that sound worth it to you? Another junk yard wanted 100 a peice....

Ouch!!! Summit has a set of headers (online only) for $119.00! Unless you just like the factory manifolds. Yes, they can be high. Thank God for E-bay.

Truck manifolds are getting scarce. The left manifold interchanges with car manifolds, well, at least they work, but the right one is a truck only manifold. I've seen them priced form $40 for the left and $75 for the right up to $175 for a pair. While they were not the cheapest I've seen them, the price is within the normal range. I think a good quality set of new manifolds is about $300-$350/pair.

I payed 400 for L&L long tube headers that have the "air injection" (I need that)

Think thats a bad deal? I heard they were the absolute best headers for a 460 truck from quite a few friends.

Coogles-is air injection the tubes coming off of each header tube? Not to sure on the wording. If so, what does it do? Mine has those and I'm guessing they're something to do with emissions?

it pumps exaust air back into the intake. That is controlled by an EGR valve, a big circular thing to the right of the butterflies. I think dissabling it might give you a hair of horsepower simply by keeping the intake cool. Even though they run much cooler from the earlier egr systems, it still pumps hot air into the intake.
