Hey folks, I'm having trouble aligning the front end of my F250 Heavy Duty 4x4. I've heard this is a normal problem with my model, and if so, does anyone have any suggestions to correct the uneven tire wear?
I've had uneven tire wear on the truck since I bough it in 2000. The original tires were already worn, and after the first alignment, I didn't play much attention. (I know - I'm a dumkoff).
Almost three years ago I took the truck to a heavy truck center. They did some work on the upper ball joints, and added some spacers there. This greatly improved the tire wear. But now that I've replaced the tires, they are wearing on the outsides only. i.e. they're both slightly tilted outward. I've had the alignment checked regularly, and each time there were minor correction to the alignment, but each time I felt there was some else needed. For example: I always need to steer slightly to the left. (Not related to the crown in the road) I don't know if this helps.
Anyway, I've heard there are adjustable camber plates that can correct the geometry.
There are bushings that adjust the upper ball joint position that alters camber. I did these on my truck after my lift kit, and they are no fun at all. Tou would need to have the alignment checked by a professional shop. Most quotes I have heard others talk about were about $200 for alignment, bushings, and labor. I did my alignment in my schools autoshop, so I only had to pay for parts.
