65 door alignment
Last week a big gust of wind caught my door as I opened it and caused it to go out of alignment. I am having a hell of a time getting it adjusted. Any suggestions??
If your truck is from the eastern half of the US look at the front cab mount for rust out..if theres is rustout there its almost a given the hinge pocket area will have some...if you look inside the cab and at the lower portion of the kick panel below the floor vent you see a rust line or heavy raised area from rusting internally...that is a reinforcement of the rear part of the door hinge pocket as each hinge has 4 bolts holding it to the cab...the inner 2 have nutplates welded or pressed into this reinforcement.
How bad is the issue...post some pics if you can...

Looking at the 65 Ford shop manual, makes reference all models adj. same. That being said, elongated holes in pillars allow for in/out movement of the door side to obtain flush fit w/ the cowl side panel. Holes where the door attaches to the hinges are enlarged, permits circular movement of the door to obtain proper spacing all around the door.
Says, sometimes door misalignment results when the body is sprung due to improper tightening of the body bolts. If the door contour appears correct, and shifting the door on the hinges will not correct the misalignment, check the body bolt torque spec's before bending the door or jacking the door opening. Cont. by noting, after the body bolts have been tightened or loosened to the proper torque it is possible that a minor alignment will be all that is required. The torque on the front body bolts is 35-45 ft.lbs.
Notes at the end of the section:
1 Detemine which hinge bolt must be loosenedto move the door in the desired direction.
2. Loosen the hinge bolts enough to permit movement with a padded pry bar.
3. Move the door the distance estimated to be necessary.
4. Tighten the hinge bolts, and check the door fit.
5. Repeat the operation until the desired fit is obtained.
**After reading these directions taken from the 65 Ford trucks shop manual may want to rethink whether or not to purchase the manual.
Found the striker plate on the 65 was loose so had to break the ole manual out. Note the striker should not be used to correct misalignment. Hopefully, instructions for the striker plate provide little more direction than those for the door. Good luck!!
