hi guys, i have just got home a 60 F100 that came from CA, it is meant to have a 312 fitted but am not sure how to tell. the motor has not got a number stamped but does have a casting number on the lhs--C24E-B015C or G, any ideas?, it is a 2 barrell and has a weird fuel filter arrangement on the fuel pump. cya.gary

Wow. I would have expected something like ECZ 6015 C. Is that casting number above the oil filter?
hi guys, the number was on the LHS of the block and had been cast, i understand that most left the factory as 292's but after 40 years anything could be their now...cya..gary
There have been several documented cases of factory installed 312's in 62-4 trucks. Ford never threw anything away and excess stock replacement blocks for Fords and Mercs found a new home. These were all C2AE castings as far as I know.
You would have to drop the pan and check maincap ID to tell for sure. The 312 were ECZ.
Ive also talked to oldtimers who said some Western states fleet sales were ordered with the 312.
hi guys, what id is on the caps?, it looks real easy to drop the sump to check, if its not a 312 i may scrap it and put a cleveland in it. on another matter, i was out west yesterday on the way home with a 56 and stopped at a property i knew of to say gday, whilst there he showed me an old tractor he had fitted a 460/c6 combo to, upon closer inspection it appeared to be another family of motor and i remembered ford also did a 468 (?)and perhaps he may have been a little incorrect with the size, he seems to think it came from a 54 ranch wagon, would'nt they all have had a Y block at that time, any ideas?the firing order on the manifold is _16425378 ( the flash makes it hard to read the 6 and 5 may be **** about)the centre plugs face each other, i can't recall seeing this motor before....cya ..gary
ebu is what will be on the caps if it,s a 292 which is almost a sure thing.a lot of people prefer these over the 312.the engine you saw was probley an fe.352-390-428 etc.
hi guys, it looks like it may be a 292 ( even though i bought a 312 )the caps have faintly got ecb2325 i think , it's hard to read. could the block have had a different crank fitted like a cleveland did with the 302/351?, the crank has what appears to be stars stmped on it in places with a large CA5 cast on the first counterweight.,the motor has been appart in the past few years by the look of it...cya ..gary
A 292 will have EBU caps and a 312 will be ECZ. I dont know if Canadian engines may be different and a lot of them migrated to CA.
Look at tha block casting again, Wire brush clean with some thinner and use a strong flashlight.
Original for a 59-60 would be B9AE, C1AE for 61 and C2AE for 62-4.
As long as the pan is off try and measure the cylinder bores.
The only ID that works is the dot code on the rear crank flange and the caps. Just the flange alone can be misleading, I have proof of that in the shop; probably a factory replacement ground to either size.
hi from australia , sound,s like a truck 292 with a steel crank to me hard to find now i would keep it , i have a 63 292 in a f700 dump with a steel crank
you can bore the 292 out heap,s change your exhaust manifold,s and your intake manifold to a 4barrel and let those,s long leg in the 292 run
yep, it was a 292, i dropped the sump and flywheel cover, no dot cast on flywheel boss, the front three counter weights are uneven, cap numbers were didderent and something else a local told me to look , the 292 did,nt have the breather box near the fuel pump as the 272 and 312 did. i am chasing a 4 barrel manifold to get it going again then i'll drop it in a 56 to unload.
