OK, I have given up on the PATS retrofit...and thus, selling my cluster. Is there any where, other than a dealership, that one can get their keys programmed to their cluster, and how much does it usually cost??
awww c'mon you're not giving up already are you?
I would have stopped a while ago
lol
Apparently some locksmiths have the tools to program the keys but your dealer is probably your best bet.
The other day I did a set of keys and got paid .4/hr to do it. I'd guess that's about normal.
Dude, if you have 2 keys it is a snap to do it yourself!!!! I got 2 keys on ebay for 20 bucks , took them to my dealer who cut them from my key code (if you don't have it they can get it from the vin #). You need to have 2 programed keys to doit. Put programed key #1 in ignition turn to on (not start) wait 5 seconds remove this key within 10 seconds put the second programed key into the ignition and turn to on (not start)wait 5 seconds and remove this key and put the key to be programed into the ignition, turn this key to on (not start) wait 5 seconds and remove, this key is now programmed. If yopu don't have 2 keys you are screwed
Liteamorn is right, with two keys you can do it yourself. Although the five seconds is actually for allowing the security module to read the key. So turn the key on and wait for the "theft" indicator to go out.
thanks guys, I knew about having both keys but I have a totally different HEC (cluster) I guess I will pay a visit to Wes at Byrd-Kuldgen Ford this weekend. Got an '02 S'Crew to put it in yesterday. (If I can talk my wife into lettin me put it in).
Thanks again Racerguy for all your help. Lemme know if you need anything.
Once you get your keys programed, you can take one of the keys and cut it open and remove the chip from inside the key. Take the trim cover on the column near the lock cylinder off and tape the chip next to the transceiver (The ring around the lock cylinder with the littlebox on the bottom) Then you can use any key that is not a pats key to start the vehicle. I have seen one of these setups done before and it worked ok. Dont hold me to this Ive only seen it done once. If you try to use another pats key with the chip taped on, it wont start because it see's two signals.
NOTE* You might better have three programed keys in case it does'nt work. LOL
