I have a 1997 F150 4.2 6 cyl with 85,000 miles that is making a loud knock. The Ford dealership says the motor is gone. No previous indication of a problem, changed oil every 3000-4000 miles. Quoted $3,400 for Ford rebuilt. Any suggestions, is $3,400 a good price?

I paid $1900.00 for a crate 4.2 litre engine...Had a $1,200.00 install.. Had same issue with my 97 Ford F-150...They are notorious for the intake gaskets leaking antifreeze between the piston and the heads, which in turn bends piston rod from excess pressure' therefore creating your knock.. At least that was my outcome..Have $3,500.00 invested in mine, and that included everything but gas. $3,400 is great if that includes install.
