try this for more power: 9:1 ratio of fuel to gas and one quart ATF.
DO NOT BE AMERICAN AND THINK THAT MORE IS BETTER!!!!
Where did i get this information. I am a heavy duty diesel mechanic and I used to work on volvos. The European manuals give ratios of up to 7:3 fuel gas mixture to counteract the crappy diesel overseas. The reason they do not advertise this here? WE ARE AMERICAN AND THINK THAT MORE IS BETTER. actually, more in this instace is burn fuel system, valve, and piston better.
What is your source? and what exactly does the transfluid do to help the fuel? At over 1$ a quart for trans fluid, it does not sound like that is a great idea. It sounds like it would cost more money than just a centane additive.
What if you don't go 9:1. What about 48:1 That is my tank to 2qts of Trans?
I would be hesitant to put any gasoline into my system. Sorry, just too cautious, I guess. I can think of a lot more harmful results than helpful results. The tranny fluid probably would assist with lubricity of straight #2 diesel, but if I were to do it, probably no more than a quart to a 38 gallon tank, as it has some good lubricating qualities, and it will combust OK, if not excellent. I doubt one quart would dye the diesel red enough for you to fail testing, if you were stopped and checked to see if you were running agriculture diesel on the road. However, right now, I am not convinced that straight diesel is not meeting all the requirements of my engine.
I run a quart of Diesel Kleen Cetane Boost through my truck about every 3rd tank refill. I do that only as a precautionary maintenance to keep the injector deposits down, and clean / prevent valve deposit buildup, too.
Some of the "home remedies" may have a place, especially on some of the older equipment, farm equipment, etc. But because of all the computerized fuel setup, and Ford's effort to minimize pollution, maximize fuel economy and burn the diesel as lean as possible in the newer Powerstroke Diesel's, I just think its risky. Too risky for me.
2) The mixture is not for everyday use. It is suggested for those days when you and your buddies are out playing around and you want to pull one sideways.
3) I suggest the use of the ATF about twice a year to help clean and lubricate the HEUI fuel system. Have you ever taken apart an automatic transmission that was dirtty inside? No..the ATF has cleaning and lubrication chracteristics that eclipse those of any other product marketed for the job. Todays low sulfur fuel does not possess the lubrication capabilities that yesterdays fuel and todays off-road fuel does. The ATF will help condition HEUI fuel systems.
Farmer, Transmission and engine are like comparing apples and oranges. Looking inside a tranny is much different than inside a diesel engine where combustion takes place. Transmission is pretty much sealed and you change fluid, what, once every 100k miles or so?
I've heard about the trans fluid add but still don't see the value in power or cost.
1) The trans fluid should be changed at least every 60,000 miles. Also, use the Lucas trans fluid additive, it is cheap insurance for a very expensive part.
2) Trans fluid gets just as dirty as engine oil but you are not using the trans fluid in the engine oil. You buy fuel from places that have a very good chance of having dirty fuel. Trans fluid has to meet the API standards to be sold, which insures that it is clean and free of contaminates. Running a quart of guaranteed clean trans fluid every six months will not hurt considering the fact that you run I don't know how many gallons of dirty fuel a month or even a week.
2a) The trans fluid add is not a performance booster, it is a cleaner and lubricator for the HEUI fuel system.
2b) Trans fluid is a petroleum based liquid just as diesel fuel is. It will burn just as diesel fuel will burn.
I had a coworkers father (over the road Truckdriver). Say just about the samething as Farmer. He would add 1gal of gas to his fuel for better start ups. This he does in his PS also his last truck was a 1999 PS. With over 200K. Thats proof enought for me. I have not put gas in my truck yet but if I think it will help me start better in an area where I can not plugit in. I will.
I honestly would not give any information that would hurt your engine. I am not a Duramax spy, I am a hardcore International lover. I have, and to date still use this mixture. I am just giving tips that you can use, it is in the end your decision.
I do encourage rebuttal, if you know of any information that I give which is not healthy or which you believe is to be untrue please inform me and others who may have used the information, and we can all come to some conclusion.
