The left side spun but right would not lock in to privide more traction. Any help or advise is appreciated. Not sure if there is a malfunction or its not a locker.

They don't work in snow or ice too often just on pavement usually.. Jack up the rear and spin a wheel the other should spin the same direction...if its posi
I am assuming you mean if it has factory limited slip. Look on the tag on the rear differential, and as you are looking at it, on the second line there will be some numbers. like 3 73 or 3ls 73, or something simular. It is a axle ratio, so it will be either 3 73 or 4 10, if there is another letter in there it is a limited slip rear end from the factory. Otherwise jack up the rear end, and see if both tires spin when you turn one. In an open diff, the oposing wheel will spin in oposite direction. If it spins the same you have a locker (hopefully not made by lincoln LOL).
NO, if it's an l/s the tires will still spin in opposite directions.Only with lockers do they spin in the same direction. You don't have a locker but you may have a limited slip. Post your Vin and someone can look it up for you or look at the tag on the cover of the diff and post those numbers.Ford limited slip's(Dana Trac-locs)are notorious for not working very well.
If you want to know if you have a limited slip or not look at the AXLE code on the sticker that's on the door jamb and then look at the axle code list that's in the FAQ thread......they are all listed there.
I am not impressed with the limited slip that came on my truck. My paved drive has an incline and with a fresh snow only one tire spins. I have to put it in 4 WD to get out the drive.
My brother's 01 CC 4X4 is the same way.
I did not order limited slip on my new truck, don't figure it is worth it.
