Some folks use the tube sand found at places like Lowes and Home depot. Some carry around the 5th wheel hitch. I haven't added any to mine for winter time driving. I do have a tool box up against the cab, but not much more than 100lbs. in it, and doesn't do much for weight over the axel.
But, then again, I'm not in the snow as much as I used too.
This is the 1st year we haven't (yet) gotten snow. Everywhere around us it is either raining or snowing and some of you poor folks back east... I can barely watch the news...
Bad news for us is I'm considering adding another water tank to our well. This is a multi-year drought for us and it doesn't look good for water around here.
Back on topic: I'd consider sand bags or possibly a water bladder, either one in a fixed box over the rear axle if I didn't have the camper on...
18''x24'' concrete core blocks from a wall I poured. About 500lbs together. I get good traction empty but do get wheel slippage at times. With those in the bed, I rarely have to touch the 4wd.
I was thinking I'd need something but after this years snow and ice I've been pleasantly suprised. The fuel tank aft of rear axle helps but no extra weight needed for me. This think is as good as my Bronco was. I even took it out of 4x4 going up a very steep hill in my neighborhood to see how it would do. Gave it very little throttle and it went up with ease and zero slip. It was NICE!!!
