I have the regular cab 2wd with the payload pakage. It's great put 1500lbs soybeans on the back and it took it real well. Thinking about a set of "air lifts" air bags anyway.

I traded super duty for heavy duty.
No real complaints, just not up as high and the wheels drive me nuts.
Ride, comfort and toys are awesome.

I recently bought the F-150, 4X4, supercab, 8ft box, XLT, HD. Beside its great looks, ride, and interior, I think the heavy duty payload package is a factor that really sets it apart from all others. A couple weeks ago I hauled 2,200 lbs of oak flooring over some ratty roads. The load made an already great ride even smoother. You can get up to 3,000 lbs. capacity in the 4X2 regular cab, which exceeds some versions of the super duty, without sacrificing ride quality. That's nearly twice the capacity of the competition. The "HD" is not just advertising hype. Look at the specs-- you will see high capacity wheels, light truck tires (vs passenger tires), heavy duty shocks, stronger springs, extra capacity radiator, transmission cooler, and 5,300 lb. rear axle 4.10 ratio. It also has a beefed up stiffer frame with about 25% thicker steel. To have both a superior ride and that kind of payload capacity is truly phenominal. Did I say I was happy with the HD package.

I almost forgot my one nit. It could have used a nice forged wheel option instead of the steel wheels. But that's fixable.

what kind of gas mileage are you guys getting with the HD F-150? I don't really need the HD, but I like the scab w/8' bed and it only comes as a HD...... Also, if you know how does the ride compare to the non HD f-150's.......

Don't know about the ride comparison, but mine rides super sweet. At 2,200 miles getting around 11 mpg. Should improve a little but not impressive.
Have not done any towing yet, but it certainly holds its own for payload vs. my SD.
Those wheels still make me puke tho. Shrug.

what up with the wheels?
I heard something at the dealer bout needing a
different machine to balance the tires--and they were
sending tires out else where to be done

I couldn't be happier with my rig. I use it for my landsape business, stuffing it full of debris while pulling a trailer. Sometimes I forget I've got something behind me because the power loss with the load is miniscule. Inside it's the fanciest car I've driven; outside it's a solid workhorse.

The wheels? Good luck. See my thread on "Where are the 7-lug wheels?".

I second the wheels thing, cant find an aftermarket anywhere and the old 16" 7 lugs wont fit, tried.

As for ride I traded a 03 F250 FX4 for my F150 SCAB HD and I love the ride in the new truck. Only have 400 mi and the first tank averaged about 12.8 mpg. Superduty for the same driving would have been about 11 mpg.

Have not had a chance to really use the truck to haul yet. Use it mostly for dirtbikes/quads and it still cold in CT.

Will let you know though.

Great reports on the HD F150. I was going to get a F250 QC Superduty V10 with 4:30 gears to replace my 99 F350 powerstroke. After finding out that I would have to go with the Lariat F250CC to get the moonroof & power sliding rear window, which I didn't really want to go with a Crew Cab, I started to do some researching into the HD F150 XLT 4x4. The F150 will also be hauling my 1800# pop-up camper along with a 16ft car hauler flatbed trailer with 2 big 650 ATVs on it. It looks like the 4:10s should be up to the task. Not concerned with the MPG on the HD F150, as it would be about the same with a F250 w/4:30 gears. The New Powerstoke 6.0L option will take 100,000 miles to pay for itself, even when figuring in the slightly better fuel mileage while towing/hauling.

Ya know, I really want the long bed S/C truck but I don't need the HD F-150 and thats the only way it comes. What would it cost to have the 4.10 gears changed to 3.73 aftermarkets??
