Temp Gauge

I just purchased a 91 Ford E350 with a 7.3..the temp gauge goes to around the L in Normal and pretty much stays there...I changed out the Thermostat(as did the PO)but didn't change anything(and is that a pain on a van)..I've driven it 50 miles non stop with no other signs of over heating...there is no oil in the radiator or water in the oil....so, temp sender or temp guage most likely to be bad? Thanks in advance...this is a great forum!

remove the wire from the sender and ground it to the block with a jumper wire,it should peg the gauge to hot,if it does the sender is bad,if not its probably the gauge
