I asked this question and everyone who responded said I should do it myself. I'm not really a mechanic just yer average joe hacker but after getting quotes in the range of 2K I decided to give it a try. I have $600 invest in new injectors a rebuilt pump, glow plugs and a return line kit and even though it took longer than it should I'm glad I did it. Just something to think about

If you have some basic mechanic skills you can do it yourself. It is just unbolting stuff and putting it back. Pay attention and search for the articles that describe what to do and show pictures. I did mine and have no prev diesel experience, lot of gasser stuff though. I felt comfortable doing it, just be careful and you will do fine.
If you do end up hiring it out, I would look for an independent shop with a guy that has worked many years. He should have some IDI experience.
