If you live in California we will program for 91 octane if you request it. Otherwise we program for 92 octane (or 93 if requested).

The switch has three settings: stock (chip turned off), performance program 1 and performance program 2.

Performance program is optional (known as a three stage chip). It can be added at a later date if you want it. If you have a two stage chip and switch over to the third stage it will ignore it and stay in the second stage.

Here's the usual setups we program, though we can do other combinations:

1 stage chip - no switch, always in premium fuel performance mode.

2 stage chip - stock plus a premium fuel program

3 stage chip - stock, premium fuel program, 87 octane program (for tranny improvements)

3 stage chip - stock, premium fuel program, nitrous oxide program

3 stage chip - stock, premium fuel program, race program (very hard shifts with tune for very high octane fuel). Lightning owners are the primary buyers of this.

We've also done a few 3rd stages made with very heavy towing in mind (less spark timing plus shifts and torque converter lockup programmed with tuning in mind).

Ken,

Ihave been loking around my area and it looks like most gas stations only carry 91 and 93 for premium fuel.
What is the charge to have the premium program tuned to 93 instead of the normal 92. Also if I ever got to a place that only had 91 or 92 would that hurt anything to run that in place of the 93 or in that situation do I just switch the chip to stock and run what ever I can get.
Thanks for the help
Tedd

The price would be the same, just tell the guy what you want and he will do it. If it's programmed for 93 octane and you have to put 91 or something else in it just stay out of the gas and keep it from pinging and you will be ok, it probally will not ping anyways.

If I order the chip with the normal program of 92, what will happen if I run 93 ? I was going to order online but I don"t see where I can change the premium tune so I guess I will have to wait till tomarrow to call the order in and tell them to tune it to 93, but Im just worried that there could be a chance that I might not find 93 oct. if I were to go out of my area or out of NY. Im also still wondering if the 87 is worth the cost even if it only changes the shift point.

Anyone got any opinions?

If it were me and 93 was available, I would get the 93 tune unless you do lots of travelling. It seems most states don't have 93 octane. But if most of your driving is local where you have the 93, go for the better tune. Or if you do travel, get the 3rd stage added with a 92 tune so that you can use it every where, it will cost more, but performance comes at a price. To me though, the 87 program is not worth it unless you have a heavily modified vehicle that the stock computer is inadequate for.

Well I ordered my diablo today ! I hope it comes with the 93 program on it, when I said that I wanted it for 93 oct. the lady on the phone said it was programed for 91 or higher so it would work with 93. I told her that Ken said they would program it for 93 if requested, then she said if anyone would know Ken would so she was going to make a note of it. I'll let you all know how it goes
