I have a 99 F350 PSD with a Banks exhaust brake. In general I love it, but it is exhibiting a problem which is apparently related to how and when the Banks and Ford computer flash code try to do torque converter lockup, and at what RPMs etc.
I've been given an opinion that a flash upgrade to a later Ford flash code rev. than I currently have may solve this problem, due to the fact that Ford, in models later than my 1999, now apparently does the torque converter lockup function that Banks included in their Smartlock product..... as part of Ford's current stock offering.
If I understood correctly, I have an NVK2 and the suggestion is for a flash upgrade to NVK4 (or later).
Does this make sense to those of you who understand Ford chips ?
What do such flash upgrades typically cost from the dealer ?
NVK6 is the most current member of the code family. We've found NVK4 to be an excellant revision. Don't know the book time for a flash upgrade but it takes less then 5 minutes.
check to see if banks supports the new flash program.... i just had my chip shut my truck down like a cam sensor was going bad..... Come to find out the mechanic flashed my computer and now the chip is worthless....
