I always thought a John Deere diesel would make a good swap. Ford should get a deal struck up with them. Check here for an engine I think would make a good candidate.

3.05L and 633lbs.

too small and too heavy. Maybe good for a Ranger. Although you could toss a 302 in a Ranger, it would weigh less, and get the same mileage.

Thanks Lectrocuted I drive heavy haul truck for a living. But it is hard to find some one who can actually explain why we have in-lines and not V's in big trucks, and why the opposite in PU trucks.

Another thing is packaging. A v-8 will fit where a tall inline six may not. I'd say the main reason you find straight sixes in the big rigs is durability and fuel economy.

4.5L ..... 200 Hp at 3k and 440ft/lbs at 1850....and a torq shift tranny!!

Now just gotta stuff it into the F-150....

shhhh.... I can hear my 02 F-150 getting nervous....
