E4OD Transmission Cooler

I dont have an aux cooler on my 92 F150 w/E4OD and bought one yesterday off of a 95 F150. First question...should they be the same? And does anyone know if the dealer sells the return line by itself that I could use to install the cooler (I would like it to have factory tubing if possible). Thanx!!

Ford transmission coolers are notorious for stopping up. Make sure that the one you purchased is cleaned out before installing it on your truck. The transmission lines from 92 to 96 should be the same. You can get these from a salvage yard or a local dealer. Hope this bit of info is useful.

Where does it bolt up(Which side of the truck)? Does anyone know off of the top of their head the return line? Would that be the line attached to the front of the transmisison or the rear? Thanx again!!

I use kerosene. I dump it out entirely first, fill it with kerosene, let it sit for a few hours, then pour that out, and used compressed air to clean out the tranny cooler thorougly. Then I pour a small amount of tranny fluid into the inlet, and blast that through with compressed air just to make sure.

Good to go. Just make sure you get every last bit of kerosene out, your transmission will thank you. I imagine other solvents will work just as good.

I bought a new trans cooler at a local parts store, I paid 30 or 40 bucks. It uses rubber hose and plastic ty-wraps to hold it on to the front right side of my A/C condensor. It works just fine, although, I mean it doesn't leak. I do not have a tranny fluid temp gauge and haven't run the new cooler in the summer heat yet. I cut the top line at the radiator and put the new cooler in series with the stock cooler in my radiator. I also have an E4OD.

924x2150...you said you cut the top line to the radiator, I believe thats the line that the fluid is coming in from the transmission to the radiator. You would want your cooler in-line on the return line side...which I believe is the bottom line.

Try to avoid cutting the factory line... just go by the junk yard and get a short piece of line with the fitting that goes into the radiator still attached. Attach the linee from the new cooler to your existing return line, just push the hose over the flare. The other end will go over the short piece you have just attached to radiatior. This way if you ever want to remove the cooler or bypass it (clogged aftermarket cooler, selling vehicle, etc.) you can just reattach with the uncut factory line with the nut still attached.
