Question DTC Code

Okay, I'm having trouble getting the definition for a DTC code. I hooked my truck up to one of those nifty code readers, and all I got was the code[undefined?], which doesn't do me much good if I want to keep my 'check engine' light from coming on.

If anyone can help, this is the code 'C0442'

The most information I have been able to track down, is something about an 'auxiliary emission system sensor', but nothing specific,

help, please.

Thanks,
Brian

Is it a P0442 instead of a C0442?
P codes are Powertrain codes which will turn on the Check Engine Light.
C codes are chassis codes such as ABS.
A P0442 indicates that a fuel vapor leak has been detected in the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system.

Yep, it's a 'C' not a 'P'. That has been the root of my problem, the reader has no definition for it, and all the DTC lists I can find on-line do not include 'C' codes, or very few, it's frustrating when you have a reader.

Thanks for your help,
Brian

Are any warning lights on?
Any other symptoms?

The only thing that sent me to the reader was my, ever vague, 'Check engine' light. Otherwise the truck is running like it always has.

A check engine light is caused by a P code. I think I'd take it and get it scanned with a different scan tool and see what comes up.

And then on the way home tonight, it went out.

Oh well.

Thanks again.
