Theodor Seuss Geisel began his career as a cartooist.

the name Dr. Seuss was taken from his middle name which was his mothers maiden name.
it was pronouncrd "Zoyce" not "Soose"

In my Senior English class we celebrated the "Seussentinnial" by reading a bunch of Dr. Seuss books to the class. It was a lot of fun, albeit childish. I've never read anything as interesting as Dr. Seuss.

I personally think the guy was a freak.

Whenever he couldn't make a sentence rhyme, he just made up words.

Also a lot of enviro-whacko messages in his stories ("Horton hears a Who" and the "Lorax")

But the kids love him.

Yeah, I agree! He really was into the environment. He probably figured future EPA workers would be reading his books.
