Fuel Gauge Not Working

Fuel Gauge Not Working
I have recently purchased an 1983 Ford F150 XLT that has 2 fuel tanks. I have a problem with the gauge not showing any fuel in either tank. Could anyone give me some advice on where to start looking and how to troubleshoot my problem?
I also have a problem with the RPM gauge, every once in a while the gauge will take a dump and not register at all, after running it for a while it will start working again????

As far as the fuel guage if both of them are not working make sure all the electrical is good. It could be a freak but I had the same prob on my 91 but it was only in one tank. The float on the sender got a hole in it (don't ask how I do not know) I pulled it out patched it with some gas tank patch stuff I got at autozone and away I went.

you circut board on the back sie of your intrument cluster could be bad to the little threaded clips that hold the guages in could be corroded and the circut board itself could be bad i had the smae problem with a tach a factory one out of a bronco in the junk yard that i got it out of would work then just stop all of a sidden then would come back on and work then do it again it wouldbe working fine i shut it of urn it back on wouldnt work i ended up throwing that thing on the road and found another on in a diffrent junk yard with a better circut board which i think was the problem the other one i had founf had those threaded clips that lookd brand new and the circut board copper contacts wheres uper clean after installing that my guages read even more accurate then did before like as in right on the spot and the tach works great to so maybe you could have a bad connection to your tach and fuel guage
