I have a 2000 x Ltd with V10. It has 40k miles on it and has always run like a dream until yesterday. I was sitting at the bank teller idling quiet as can be and then suddenly it sounded like I was in an appache helicopter. All the dash lights came on, the temp. guage went to red, the engine was bucking and missing and I barely had enough power to back into a parking spot. I turned the key off and let it sit for 5 min. and I started it back up and it ran like a dream for 2 miles and then the helicopter came back.
My error code is P1299 which is apparently some sort of cylinder overheated sensor malfuntion. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so, were is this sensor on the motor? I would like to replace it myself if possible. Thanks for any help you can give...
P1299 is the dtc set when the CHT (cylinder head temp) sensor reaches a high value and the PCM puts the system into a protection mode. The misfiring you experianced was the PCM pulling power back by droping cylinders. There could be a real overheating issue here, or your sensor could be bad. But if this was the only DTC that was set, it was probably a true overheat condition. Check your coolant level.
I am curious to know how you found the code
I am experiencing an intermitent flashing dash light that seems to be a code
the no spark or flame indicator on my dash flashes once then 6 times do you know if this a code ?

rlh68050, what did you do to fix your problem? I have a similar problem with my 97 F150 4.6L, except my truck won't get into limp home mode, it just plain dies. P1299 comes up then. Did you just replace the sensor???
