Clutch Trobleshooting
If I put my ford truck into 2nd gear while it is idleing and slowly let off the clutch and the truck DOES NOT cut out...does that mean my clutch is out? Anyone help me out or know any other troubleshooting methods to check forsure???
If so, then your clutch is not on the way out. It is GONE!
I assumed it went out , but I was only 100 miles from home when it went out on me, so I drove in 4th all the way home....4th is the only gear I have...I thought it was the clutch, but didn't understand why I could drive in 4th...no other gears work at all but 4th!!!
What year is your truck?
What kind of trans do you have? 4 speed or 5 speed?
When was the last time the tranny fluid was checked?
Does the tranny make any growling or howling noises?
Are you absolutely positive the tranny is engaged in a gear?
What I'm getting is this: The reason 4th gear could work is it is more than likely a direct drive, and bypasses the countershaft. I don't do much gear work, and it's been about 2 years since I got into a light duty tranny, so I can only give you theoretical answers. Someone else may be better suited to help you on here.
Oh, and by the way, welcome to FTE!
