When you say kayaking, I assume you mean white water variety. The Ottawa River (flows almost due south from Northern Ontario down through Ottawa and on to Montreal and the St. Lawrence River is ranked in the top 10 rivers in the world for white water kayaking. (So my oldest son, the kayaker tells me).
Come in early April through July/August for the kayaking. You'd want to find these plases on your map - Pembroke, Renfrew, Arnprior, Ottawa.
Your american dollar is worth about $1.30 Cdn at this time.
Well, I live in Ontario, and can assure you, I am not a Liberal. In fact, I'd probably go so far as to say I'm not even a "progressive" conservative. Further, we had a pretty right-wing provincial goverment here since about 94? (Thanks Mike!) Just recently did the "liberals" win a majority government.
As far as the rest of Ontario, a great place to visit, more friendly / trusting than the US, and your dollar will go alot farther here as allready stated.
We have some awesome cruise nights here in the summer, and if you happed to come here in the summer, we have the Canadian version of the Ford Truck Nationals. It's worth seeing.
well, im just a beginner kayaker fo know so ive done very little whitewater, mostly what i do is kayak touring across large lakes and stuff im good at that and i can naviagate the big ones. whats you big lakes like? i know the st lawernce is a great place to kayak as well as long as you stay out of the shipping channel.
Madawaska Lake above Kaladar, Ont. - I think it's about 30 miles long. Has a spot in the center where it narrows to about 30 feet wide with cliffs approx. 240 ft high on one side. While it's in the middle of a large provincial park, rock climbing (with proper gear) is permitted.
Eastern Ontario is filled with thousands of lakes big and small.
Interesting rivers to try might be ;
Mississippi - starts near the bottom of the Madawaska River and eventually reaches the Ottawa River north of Ottawa, Ont.
Madawaska River - flows from somewhere in Madawaska Lake through Calabogie eventually to the Ottawa Rvier at Arnprior. Excellant scenery along this one.
Rideau River/Canal - from Kingston, Ont to Ottawa, Ont.
There's some great lakes and rivers over near Peterborough, Ont as well. (About an hour north east of Toronto, Ont.) Nice rolling hills and bush. Not quite as rugged as Eastern Ontario though....
