Not cool that he nearly bought it, but cool video footage of the event!
I'm a biker too and I've had my share of "get-offs" though not under the same high-speed circumstances (Thank God!!). Most of mine were off-road (broken finger, ankle, collar-bone, strained back, lots of lost hide, etc...all on different occasions).
I enjoy my Softail (FXSTC) on those nice warm summer days when it's too warm to be stuck in a truck cab. I had a "crotch rocket" (Honda CBR900RR) 12 years ago and the riding position was too hard on my knees/back/wrists then (I was 31 at the time)...I don't even want to think of getting on a bike like that these days. Unless, of course, I underwent some intense physical conditioning, which maybe still wouldn't be enough to be comfortable on one of those for any length of time. Those bikes are built for lightweight teens and 20-somethings.
