i was just wondering if theres anyone form ontraio around here? i was wondering what it is like socially, politcally, etc. im thinking of taking a vacation there and want to learn all i can.
Just so you know Ontario does not represent the rest of Canada. Every province is as diverse and uniqe as any Amarican state.
Politicaly they are all Liberals (nuf said).
Socially well.. um... lets just say there are more outgoing people than Torontonians. The rest of Ontario has typical Canadians. Beer drinking, doughnut eating, hockey watching slobs. The best people in the world IMHO.
If you really want to see the great white north than may I suggest the Maritimes or northern Alberta or Saskatchewan. Beutiful country. No offence to any fellow canuks but other than Niagra Falls Ontario don't got much unless you go in the winter, then there is lots to do.
Socially? - On the average, we're pretty friendly, although to somebody who's not used to big cities (like my girlfriend from small town Oregon), people in Toronto can seem a bit rude. Its not that we're mean, we're just busy. Rural Ontario is pretty much like any other rural place in North America. People are very friendly.
Politically? - The ruling party right now is the Liberal party, the equivalent of these guys would be a left-leaning US democrat. There's an 8% sales tax in Ontario, on top of the 7% federal tax on everything you purchase, however you can get forms from Customs that allow you send in for a partial refund if you're just visiting. Healthcare is free and secondary education is (relatively) affordable.
Culturally? - Canada's government supports multiculturalism, think 'salad bowl' instead of 'melting pot'. Canadian unity is based on dis-unity. I'm not a huge fan of multiculturalism because it only encourages small minorities to assert themselves. It does certainly create a more interesting and diverse place to live.
Environment? - Southern Ontario is full of gently rolling hills and small hardwood forests. Once you head about 2 hours north, you get hugh softwood forests dotted by exposed rock and thousands of lakes.
If you let us know what sorts of activities you're into, we can make better reccomendations on where to go and what to see.

Out here, we got BEACHES!!!! Damn near YEAR ROUND GOLF!!!! In Whistler, there's YEAR ROUND SKIING and SNOWBOARDING!!!! We have rivers for kayaking and white water rafting, "supposedly" good fishing (I don't fish), a first rate Stanley Cup contender, ... the list goes on.
bigrigfixer besides all that we also have everything from deserts to rainforests, natural hotsprings, glaciers, lava flows, prairies and tall mountains that can all be seen in a few days of driving. We've got awesome big game hunting, world record fishing and wildlife that no where else in the world has.
