Where do you put it while filling up? Do you let it hang down. Or do you hook it to the face plate. What about cut the plastic line and place it on the bed rail?
It just makes me mad when the thing bangs against the bed of my truck.
You can purchase an aftermarket cap that has the fill and lock incorporated right into the cap.
I have to agree with you though. The access cover is cheapo plastic, it has no remote lock/release, and the dangling cap is a pain in the butt. Another corner cut IMO.
[I also put the cap on the hook. And your right about the cheep door i'm thinking of putting a billit door on but thats still up in the air. and YES the cap has to be a factory cap, and put on till it clicks. sorry to say my wife put gass in and did not get the cap on all the way and the service lite came on as soon as she started the truck. I called the service center and told them what was going on and thay told me to check the cap and that is what it was.
The dealer here actually had the gas cap on a post sale checklist. They explained that the gas cap had to be on correctly or the service light would come on.
Nice Tip! I never thought to use the hook to hang the cap on while filling up. It's always ticked me off letting it hang.
I agree that you don't want the cap hanging against the paint and that "clip" to hang it on is a joke, if that's what Ford thinks is acceptable we would be better off with the filler behind the license plate and place the cap inside the plate to hold it open! don't knock the old way!
