Post General Question

I have a question, which is not really a big deal I wouldn't guess. Comparing my truck to my uncles truck, there are two differences that I saw after taking a complete look over of the engine to compare.

His engine was built in September of 2003 but he has an 04 F-250 CC 6.0L Diesel 4x4 XLT. My engine was built in January of this year (04) and I have an F-250 CC 6.0L Diesel 4x4 Lariat as well.

Comparing the engines I noticed a difference which could be good or bad. In his truck, his torq pipe is all metal and does not denote what it is (right behind the fan on the front). In my truck, I have a plastic torq pipe which does say what it is, etc....everything else except for the elbow is metal in which bolts on. Not sure if this is a through explanation or not, I may have to post some pictures on monday.

If someone knows the difference or if I should even worry about it; not that I'm worried about it anyway, just noticed the difference; could tell me why they are being built like this now?

Also, being my truck a Lariat package, etc...I have noticed that I don't have an engine blanket and am not sure why this is. Also, the radio has been downgraded to the basic, bottom of the line radio (AM/FM Single CD).

Thanks in advance.

Shrapnel64,

Your uncle has an 04/03 which is an 2004 truck with a 2003 motor. The new motors were not installed until after 09/30/2004 build date. You have a 04/04 2004 truck with a 2004 motor. As you venture around this site you will see the reference to build date alot. This should help keep the problems and fixes straight, it is confusing at first. Most of the problems that have occurred have been with the 2003 motors. Here is a link listing all the changes that are included on the 2004 motors.

AS for the changes made to your motor they are a good thing, the are fixes to the problems in the 2003 motors.

As for the no hood blanket, hood light, glove box light, in-door courtesy lights and lower grade basic radio, FMC calls this de-selecting. This is were FMC removes items it doesn't think you will miss, but they don't lower their price of the vehicle they just increase their profit margin.

Hope this helps

Haha, yes, I noticed that. But, from what I hear the Lariat models are still supposed to have the blanket. However, I have a hood light, a glove box light and I haven't checked, but I should still have the in-door courtesy lights; but I do have a basic radio...not that the sound quality has lessened from the 02' SC 4x4 5.4L Triton that I had previously.

Thanks for the clearing up of the question....but it still makes me wonder why they can't make up their mind about the keypads on the doors and how to assemble the engine
