I too have now read Hunter's 6.0 horror story, but with maybe a feeling of it hitting even more close to home than most. You see my '07s build is the same month/year as his and going with the "bad apples in a bunch" I started comparing his VIN to mine to see how close our "apples" were to each other.
So aside from his being a CC/SB vs. mine a SC/LB (position 5: W vs X), only the check digit (position 9) and the sequence are different, mine being 8403 units younger (higher number) than his.
I haven't had near the other issues his OASIS report showed (engine wise), so just a case of bad luck?
Second but maybe more interesting Q: both our engine codes are P for a 6.0 diesel. When I go to the ford site and run the decoder it says engine built by International. But when I dig deeper and look at the table for '07s, it says the Engine is a Navistar with 235HP and 325#Tq! My engine label says it's an International with a 325HP and 570#Tq rating. (in fact the table shows no 6.0 engine rated that high). And here I thought all those folks saying the later 6.0s were de-tuned for reliability were full of it...
Obviously I need to find something to worry about....
So what really is your question? Vehicle build date and engine build date are two different entities. As far as your question regarding engine code is concerned, it has always been 'P' for all 2003 to 2007 F-Series and 2004 to 2010 E-Series with this engine. As far as engine output, for all E-Series applications, it has always been 235 bHP and 440 ft-lbs. and for F-Series it has always been 325 bHP from 2003 to 2007, and 560 ft-lbs. for 2003/2004 engines, while 2005 to 2007 made a 10 ft-lbs. jump to 570 ft-lbs.
Thanks, M-Chan -- between all your other posts on the glow plug issue (answering my 1st part), I think you zeroed in on my real question -- Ford's VIN table must be wrong...
