Found out I have a bad oxy sensor on my truck and am going to attempt to replace it tommorow. Where is it located on the truck and are they a pain to replace?
Your truck has four (4) oxygen sensors...do you know which one is having the problem? Did you get a CEL or pull a trouble code? If so, the code number will tell you which sensor is having the problem. Also, keep in mind that an 02-related code doesn't necessarily mean that the sensor itself is bad, it could mean something else, such as a lean or rich condition.
Thanks for the reply's fellas. I don't know which one is causing the problem. When I went to Autozone the guy who read teh code more or less blocked my view and as soon as he said "looks like you got a bad oxygen sensor" immdeiately pulled the tester/reader and went inside, not giving me a look. Dunno what the deal was but he wasn't real forthcoming with info. I'm going to a different Autozone next time. Which brings me to my new problem. Coming home from class this morning the light clicked off and now doesn't appear. This means that the code can't be read now right?
The AZ guy probably cleared the codes, but since the CE light came on again there is a code stored in memory. Take it to the second AZ, have them pull the codes & write it/them down & post them here.
When the CE light comes on it means a trouble code has been stored & it will remain for approx 30 or 40 restarts. If the problem doesnt occur again in those 30 or 40 restarts the code will go away. Since the CE has turned off, you might get lucky & it wont come on again. If it was mine i'd get the codes pulled at the second AZ, maybe that guy will be more helpful & tell you the codes.
