Installing Lower Ball Joint Boot

I guess I am an idiot. How do you install the lower ball joint boot without tearing it? I have installed the ball joint but cannot get the boot seated.

It is easier if you put it on before you install it. Grease the boot and mounting area first. There is a steel ring inside the rubber. Tip it onto the mounting ledge and use a blunt object on the other side and lightly tap it in place.
