Steering ball joint boot size
Steering ball joint boot size
'95 F250 4x4 RCLB 5-speed 160,000-ish miles
Cr@p - greasing the ball joints the other day, and while doing the one between the drag link and the left outer tie rod, I blew it out - tore it. That's a generic boot I can replace, right? Anybody know the diameter? And I just pop the joint out with a pickle fork and then I can replace the boot, right? No real 411 in the FSM; they assume you're gonna replace the tie rod with a fresh ball joint installed.

Seems to be the right size; just ordered a 12-pack, direct from ES is the best price. Dang, won't have time to pop the joint before a 500-mile trip. I'm thinkin' ("crimson collar" repair alert...) I'll wrap it with a piece of bike innertube and then "bandage" it with duct tape 'til I get back. Think that'll suffice for the time being?
