Computer Diagnosis

I am hoping that someone has some experience diagnosing the EEC-IV computer. I have and 88 Bronco 302, auto trans. I attempted to run the self-test procedure by jumping the terminals in the self-test port as outlined on this board and elsewhere on the internet. I have preformed this test successfully in the past however, this time was different. I accidently ran the wire from the battery positive terminal to the wrong terminal in the connector as well as leaving the key turned to run. Upon making the connection, there was a brief arc and now the truck does not run. My gut is that I "fried" the computer, however before buying another computer I am hoping that someone knows a procedure for testing the computer or perhaps knows it it is possible to have fried a relay or fuse elsewhere on the vehicle in this manner.

Thanks,
Brian

Well it does sounds like you have fried it but ... you could always try completely disconnecting power to the truck...then applying and try to start it again. leave it off for about 10 min. May reset the puter.
Good Luck Sparky

Check the fuses; if you're lucky, you just blew one.

Thanks,

The manual says that the fuse for the computer is a fusible link located under the hood. Does anyone know where it is located and how to identify it?

Thanks,
Brian

Normally the links are off the battery lug of the starter solenoid. They look like a piece of plastic molded into the wire, tube like. Visually inspect for damage and test with 12 volt test light. Probe wire before and after, power before and none after this is the problem child. Auto parts have replacements and splice in to system. Good luck.

As Luck said..fusible links are inline. Usually a 10 or 12 guage wire and looks like a lump in the wire. There are a few under the hood and in different places. the puter does ahve 1 to it so you may have to tracethe wires from it til you find it. good luck with it. electrical can be a bitch

Not so good

Well, all of the fusible links check out as well as the ignition module and the relays. It looks like I will be looking for a used computer. Strangely enough, a week after the damaging incident, the battery is dead as a doorknob (less than 2 volts). Luckily it was still under 100% warranty.

Thanks for the help.
