Go to http://hunter.com/ and click on the Find a GSP9700 in your area link...

There is also a real good tire uniformity (or road force overview) at http://secure02.ecommercesoftware.co.../report?Link=3
Click on the What is tire uniformity? link.

Others have had driveline vibrations when the angles were not the same between the pinion and the transmission. If all of your drive shaft angle is at the transmission and none at the differential it can induce a vibration - CV joints remedy this.

CV joints? as in universal joints? Mine are brand new. Are they they same thing?

Anyway, I just ordered the Mickey Thompson Classic II aluminum rims. I'll toss those on when I get them and see what happens. I heard that the Rock Crawlers are sometimes bent right from the factory.

86,

I also found a gsp9700 right down the street from me. So, if i still have the bouncing after I install the new rims, i'm going to take it to them to have the tires checked.

Considering that my 42" bias street tires (swampers) ride smooth as silk I'd say the guy who balanced your tires didn't know what he was doing or you have some other problem as the other guys mentioned. If everything else (u-joints, dl angles, etc) check out have your tires rebalanced. I don't even have any lead on my tires, just equal. But heck, you've got little tires and they are radials, no reason they shouldn't be smooth.

I agree with you 100%. I understand that they are supposed to make a humming noise and don't mind that at all, I like it. But considering that the SSR was supposed to be Super Swamper's answer to smooth riding tires, i'm not having much luck. I JUST had them rebalanced on Saturday, and it DID make a small difference, so I know I have a problem here somewhere.

This is why I must start the process of elimination.

Since I am more certain that the SSR's should ride smooth, more than I am certain that the 60.00 Rock Crawlers are high quality rims, I ordered the new aluminum Mickey Thompson Classic II's today. I'm hoping this fixes the problem.

If not, I will have my tires checked with that machine that 86rustbucket was talking about and if they check out good, then I'll have to move to the drivetrain.

However, I've had drivetrain vibrations before and I pretty much know what they feel like. More like a buzzing teeth jarring vibration than a bouncing, steering wheel shaking, sensation.

So I'm pretty certain it's not the drive train.

Perhaps, it could be something as simple as the tire pressure I'm running.

I'm currently running 35psi because anything less and they truck has a smooshy wobble to it. Do you think tire pressure can play a role here?

By the way, you guys have all been great, so thanks.

Tire pressure does play a role, but it shouldn't induce the symptoms you are describing. 35psi sounds about right for radials. I run 23psi in mine, but mine have a 30psi max. Running your radials at 35psi should not be inducing the problems that you are having. When was the last time you had your front end (alignment) gone through?

Ah, good question...

About 3 weeks ago after I installed the lift. I had it aligned by a guy who has aligned many lifted trucks. He seemed to know what he was doing. However, after I had it aligned it still pulled to the right. He called it a "Radial Pull". But he put it back on the machine and checked it again, he said everything was perfect. But I still had that right hand pull.

Then just today, i checked out the GSP9700 site that 86rust told me about, and they address that exact situation. Stating that analysing your tires and wheels with this machine will determine if you have a bad tire or bent rim, which would cause this "radial pull". This would otherwise NOT show up when balancing tires or performing alignments. So there may be a problem, again, with either my cheap rims or one of my tires.

Which brings me back to the infamous "process of elimination"...ARRRRGGGHHH (I hate this process)

Never heard of "radial pull" but good luck and let us know what you find out...

Rims are shipping today from East Coast Off Road and should be here and mounted by next week. So I'll let you know what happens once I've got them mounted.

BTW, kick *** truck!!!! I think Armored Tanks get better gas mileage?

I had a similar problem, my BFG's were vibrating like freaking crazy! I went through everything you've gone through, new rims, road-force balancing, alignment, etc etc.

I thought I was stuck with 4 brand new vibrating tires!! I found a shop that shaves tires round. I bit the bullet, did it, and now my tires are riding smooth as glass!

I'm REALLY surprised you had to do that with BFGs. Interco is kinda famous for their range of quality control but not bfg. Good point to bring up though...

I've thought about getting them trued also. This is something I might consider if the rims don't work. What did it cost you and how much mileage did you lose off your tires?

Also, which BFG's were they? Because I was thinking of getting the M/T KM's in a 35" once these wear out.

Busa, they were the A/T's. It cost me $12.50 per tire to true, and $12.50 per tire to balance (strobe balance by hand, not the regular tire computer balance), and a few pennies for wheel weights. Total came out to around $125, well worth the money for the ride I'm getting, IMHO. I had already thrown over $300 balancing, aligning, having voodoo witch doctors sacrifice chickens on my tires trying to fix my vibrations, so another $125 was nothing in my book (kidding about the chickens, they would Sawzall old Chevy parts, chickens don't deserve that kind of treatment!)

I looked at some of the bigger chunks of rubber that were laying on the shop floor that they shaved off, and the biggest I saw was around 1/8" tall. Not that much, but it made all the difference in the world.

Actually, quite a few members in the Super & Heavy Duty forum have BFG A/T's with vibrations like mine.

ON EDIT: I also had 'radial pull', and it fixed that too!!

Great, thanks. I'll keep that in mind if the new rims don't work.

I'm going to try the chickens tonight !!!!!

Tom

I hope the BFG Mud Terrain KM's don't have that problem. That's what I'm switching to when I wear these swampers out. 35" er's.
