my ranger has more addons than my capri and it still does less top end. My rear gears are the factory 3.55, when I had the 5-spd and 31's, I actually needed 4.10 ithink to get the speedo right. it also has a 3" body lift and another 1-2" in extra spring height. The aerodynamics of pushing a box through the wind with poor gearing realy hurt the top end. The 5-spd just couldn't handle the 4wd and pulling trailers. it shucked out after 3 1/2 years. Now with the C6 3-spd auto, I actually need 3.08 gears for the speedo to be on. It'll still do 100 easy enuf but now my rpm's are getting kinda high. It works good enuf, I kinda like having the extra at the bottom end of the range.
100-110 when the freeway is clear. I typically take my ranger ('95 3.0, 5-speed manual, 31" tires) up to 70+ everyday to and from work. If I'm heading to Vegas (from LA) I cruise from 90-110. Only the limiter and hills prevent me from going faster.
I have no shame. I don't get chicken at higher speeds unless traffic starts closing in on me. Otherwise, I go as fast as I can without worrying too much about getting pulled over.
Yeah, with those 4 cylinders, you better hit 4th or you've messed up.I hate how "sloppy" my truck is.It should be alot better though when I get the guts to drop the factory 3.45 one-spinner ratio and drop in a 4.10 Traction-Loc .
BTW,I never hit 5th unless I'm 60+.4th is just like Overdrive to me lol.
my 99 wont go over 97. I hate it! I was driving beside a civic and he floored it. Well so did I. I was right beside him all the way to 97, then it seemed like it hit the brakes. He was laughing, but so was i. He had alot of money in his car, and it was only as fast as a stock ranger. (maybe even a little slower)
