To buy or not to buy an extended warranty? Those with 99's, 98's or older what type of repair bills (if any) have you been hit with. My 03 EB has 28K miles and I'm thinking about an extended warranty. I searched and Ford's ESP looks like the best way to go and reasonable after the quote my finance company gave me. Thanks for any advice in advance!

It's worth it to me. But take this word of advice, buy one of Ford's. Make sure its a Ford warranty not just purchased through them. You'll thank me later.
Oh yea, here's my conventional wisdom: they wound't sell them if the didn't make money on them so, they do charge more than what they typically cost but look at it this way: 50 percent of the purchasers will lose (they pay more than they get in return) and 50 percent will win. 50-50 odds are good enough for me.
I've won at least eight times over: a $7,000 engine and $1,100 sunroof. I'll be buying them for a long time to come.
Please clarify something about ford's ESP warranty...i thought that your vehicle had to still be under warranty to be able to purchase an extended warranty from ford.....

It must be a third party company, because just over the past 2 days I'm looking in to buying Ford ESP for my 04 Expy and it must be within the 3/36000.
Also check to see if there's a buyback...the warranty I just got when I traded for the '03 has an option where my warranty purchase price will be returned if I don't use it.

When I bought my 00 EB, it had 39K on it. I purhcased a Ford extended warranty directly from the dealer - not third party. The truck was 3K out of warranty at that point. I can't say if it's the same deal if you owned the truck since new, but if you're buying a used truck from a Ford store, they should be able to sell you the same. Be advised that, like anything at the dealership, the price is never set in stone. Originally, they wanted $1500 for a 2 year/24K bumper to bumper warranty. I was fortunate enough to talk them down to about half that.

After owning this Expy for about 8 months, the ESP warranty has replaced a front axle and LLS shock. If it hasn't paid for itself yet, it's within a couple dollars. The next repair will put me in the black.
after numerous repairs that were not covered on my 98 explorer, I bought a 7 year/ 100,000 mile exteended warranty for my 2003 expy. I paid 1600.00 and the deductible is 75.00. The best part is that I get a rental car any time it goes in the shop. I paid about 1400.00 in repairs plus there was another 2000.00 that I could have paid if I did not trade it in. I guess it all depends on how long you plan to have your vehicle.
