i know this was posted a little while ago, but i just came across a HP D44 out of a 78 ford pick up. is that what i want if im going to do a solid axle conversion??? i need to know as soon as possible. also, it has drum brakes, will the discs off of my TTB bolt right onto it, or do i have to get a conversion kit
are you sure, because this one definatly has drums on it. the guy is near me and i found it off of ebay......so...what does it have if its not drum..??

"Well I took it out my self out of a 78 ford pickup not a bronco and ford never put high pinion in a bronco and measurements are 5 foot 8 inches from outside of drums it will fit perfectlyand because of high pinion you drive line angles would be awesome if lifted Thanks Kris "
yup..the only disadvantage of the 78-79 fronts is the c wedges cant be rotated or moved in, but you dont have to worry baout that since toyur just putting the in an f-150
I think it's interesting that this guy is claiming it's a HP D44 but there are no pics of the pinion side of the diff.
There's no way that's a HP if the drums are stock. I can't imagine why anyone would try to swap drums onto an axle that originally had discs.
I'd run away from that thing and never look back.
Just for kicks you should ask the guy for the BOM numbers off the long side tube.
Edit: I'm thinking about this and becoming more and more interested in the BOM numbers. I wonder if Ford did some of their usual weirdness and dropped a HP 44 in a late 76' or early 77' while they were still using drum brakes?

I would suspect that axle is not a high pinion....because of the drum brakes.
If he says they never used a high pinion in the 78-79 bronco...than he is misinformed.
It looks just like the front axle in my 69 f100 4x4
