I don't know if it goes back past 79' or not. If it doesn't, try the Dana BOM decoder on this page.--->

If the length matches up, it will work. You will have to convert the thing to disc. I think thats a hell of a lot of a trouble just to go from a ttb d44 to a straight 44 with no other gains. If it were a bolt on with locker and lower gears it would be different.
i agree, ive kinda given up on it, i figure i might as well go with a D60 if im going to up grade to anything, it just seemed to be a great price for what he was claiming. im not going to build anything for a while, but i figure i cant pass up a good deal now, im going to start collecting everything i need, im going to build a full-bronco wehn i get the money and time....college is taking away from both....im thinking i want a D60 front and back locked for a start.

There's no way that's a HP if the drums are stock. I can't imagine why anyone would try to swap drums onto an axle that originally had discs.
ive seen a few drum hp 44's....the highboy's had a low pinon 44, but ive yet to see a 73-79 low pinion 44 that came out of an f-150
look here.....a 74 f-100 with a dana 44 and drums.....high pinion.
its swapped over to disc now....and the housing is definitely not a 78-79...the c- wedges are the weld on kind....not part of the housing
EDIT: ok this is rediculous....i cant post of alink of a picture to prove someething

jk Sure enough though, drums and HP. Ford never ceases to amaze me. I mean, why put the weaker center section in an F-250 and stick the tougher HP 44s center sections under F-150s?I remember you asking about the LP 44 in an F-150 awhile back. At the time I was ALMOST sure I had seen LP 44s under older 150s. I've been meaning to look under a few pre-77's to satisfy my curiosity. I'd actually forgotten about it untill now. With that I'd also forgotten about my doubts that HP 44s came in pre-77.5' F-150s. I stand corrected, thanks to your pic.
I'd still like to know what the BOM on that axle is, just out of curiosity and the pursuit of getting my story straight.

I have a 9" at home out of a 4wd 65 ford pickup w/ a 352 V8 in it, anyone know what the ratio would be in this axle?
"dad and he thinks its out of a early 70's ford pickup, It didn't have a front clip, so not positive onb year, but pumpkin is on the drivers side and it has drum brakes. I have more pitures but i dont know what the number is on it and i dont think it matters. If you need a high Pinion, driver side pumkin, with drums here it is. It is for sale for 150$ which is CHEAP for a high pinion axle w/ drums wrecking yard is 500$ with drums and for disc they start at 700$ and keep on goin up so Its up to you I thought I was sellin this for a hell of a deal and Just lettin you know if your goin to run any tire bigger that a 36 inch tire you need at least a 9 inch if you got a 8.8 I would go to a 9 inch or dana 60 I got a 9 inch for 50$ complete drum to drum like this dana44 I am sellin cheap because I am moving And need to get this stuff away quitly.

I agree with that 100%. Plus, you do not want to keep the drum brakes and by the time you finish swapping over to discs, a Dana 60 with discs would have cost almost the same amount.
